AC DRIVES
AC Drives : VFD / VSD
Control Techniques’ AC drives provide world-class solutions to a wide range of applications and industries. AC drives also known as variable frequency drives (VFD), variable speed drives (VSD), adjustable-speed drives or inverter drives also referred to as motor controls.

AC Motors
Induction Motors
Nidec world-class matched solutions bring together Control Techniques’ AC drives and US Motors’ induction motors. Unidrive M700 high performance AC drives and Commander C200 general purpose AC drives have been matched with ACCU-Torq® severe duty cast iron and vector duty steel and aluminum induction motors to make selection easy.
Synchronous Reluctance Permanent Magnet motors
Leroy-Somer’s LSHRM DYNEO+® synchronous reluctance permanent magnet motors are designed to be controlled by a drive. Their efficiency is not only better than that of NEMA Premium solutions at rated speed, but is also much higher at low speeds. This increase in efficiency is as much as 12 to 15 percent at half-speed.

Servo Motors
Control Techniques offers a full range of servo motors in a variety of choices to meet your needs.
The Unimotor hd is a high dynamic brushless AC servo motor range, ideal for use with our Digitax HD servo drive series. The drive offers full servo control plus open loop permanent magnet motor and induction motor control. The NT motor has an advanced motor design offering a compact footprint with high torque and low inertia — ideal for dynamic applications. The XV motor is perfect for cost-sensitive applications that still require servo performance.

Servo Drives
Control Techniques’ servo products deliver high performance combined with maximum flexibility. The drives can connect to a wide range of motion controllers through I/O or dedicated communication networks such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET. Alternatively, these drives can use their integrated motion controller to take control of the automation system.
To optimize performance, Control Techniques servo drives and servo motors are segmented by the duty required for the application:
Pulse Duty Servo Drives – Digitax HD
- High dynamic applications requiring hard accelerations and decelerations. Examples include pick-and-place, flying shear and other cut-to-length machines. These applications are characterized by high peak (e.g. 300% overload) and moderate RMS torque.
Continuous Duty Servo Drives – Unidrive M700
- High precision over an extended duration requiring lower acceleration and deceleration rates. Examples include printing and winding and labeling. These applications are characterized by moderate peak and high RMS torque.
DC Drives
DC SCR / thyristor drives, field controllers, and DC motors remain common in industries such as metals, cranes, mining, and printing. The current trend is to replace DC systems with new AC drives and motors to reduce maintenance overhead.
However, replacing DC systems can often be a significant task that requires the machinery to be taken out of service for an extended period while mechanical and electrical rework is completed.
So, utilizing existing DC motors and upgrading the DC drives can be the most attractive option. DC motors are usually well built and capable of offering many more years of service to help lower project costs and minimize disruption and risks.
Control Techniques’ DC drives are now based on our industry-leading AC drive technology to deliver enhanced motor performance, reliability, and system integration options.

Functional Safety
What is functional safety?
Functional Safety entails the detection of a potentially dangerous condition resulting in the activation of a protective or corrective device or mechanism to prevent hazardous events arising or providing mitigation to reduce the consequence of the hazardous event.
In the design of a machine, a risk assessment must be performed and then updated regularly. As far as possible, the machine should be designed to be inherently safe, so that hazards are eliminated from the basic design. However, in most cases some risks remain at an unacceptable level and must be actively reduced using suitable control measures.
Why integrated safety?
The integration of motion safety functions in the drive supports a decentralized approach to the machine’s functional safety that brings many benefits

Safely and securely snapped in
Option Modules are housed in a protective case that allows them to be quickly and easily snapped into a drive without the need for tools. Once in, they are held firmly in place by latches that require a positive action to release.
High speed updates
Option Modules have high speed access to the complete drive parameter set enabling time-critical functions such as high speed updates for speed or position. The system can also facilitate active monitoring of the drive system’s health through trending key variables such as heat-sink temperature or current overload.
